“Can you give me some marketing tips?”
That was basically the opening line of an email I got from someone not long ago. No intro, no information on what type of book, blog or business they had, no author or business bio, no website, nothing.
I was at a loss as to how to answer them.
I wrote back, telling them that they’d need to provide more information for me to even begin to answer their question.
They emailed back and basically provided a link to their book.
People, first of all, there are so many types of marketing it’s insane. I only provide a tiny bit of what is needed to market a book, blog or business.
I am a “Social media Promotional Assistant” Who can if you provide it help you market your content to my friends and followers across the social media platforms I am on, and onto my blog.
I can help you with some networking and outreach. What I cannot do is read your mind.
Here are my tips for someone who wants “Marketing Advice.”
First, you need a media kit. You might have separate media kits for each of your books or your business and that’s fine, but you also need one comprehensive media kit which will answer the following questions.
· Who are you?
· What do you do?
· How can I see and buy your Book, Product or service?
So, in short your media kit needs to house a bio of you. It needs to list your books, products, or services. It needs to list Where you can be found (IE) Your website and full URLS to your social media links if you have them.
You should send this media kit when querying for help with marketing. You should not attach it but rather you should write a brief intro, “Hi my name is Patty L. Fletcher, I’m writing to get more information about you and what it is you offer. Below is my media kit which will give you all the information you need to understand who I am and what it is I do.”
That’s generic but you get the idea.
After you write that brief intro you then paste in your media kit below.
You will do this if you’re requesting help with marketing, if you’re wanting to appear on someone’s podcast or internet radio show, whatever.
You may have to tweak things a bit to meet the query letter need but you never, and I mean never query someone without providing them with information.
If you’re smart, you never query someone without first going to their website and doing your homework. You want to know who they are, what they do, and if they have any type of guidelines for submitting a query.
I cannot tell you how frustrating it is when someone emails me or comments on FB or whatever and says, “Can you give me some marketing tips?”
When I get messages like that it lets me know they’ve not been to my blog, they’ve not looked at my services overview there, they’ve not read my newsletter, they’ve most likely not even gone and read anything from my regular timeline, let alone my Facebook pages, Twitter Feed, LinkedIn or anything else.
If you’re serious about wanting to receive help from me or anyone else you first need to learn how to approach someone correctly.
Here, below, is my services overview.
If, once you’ve read this you think you might like to talk to me about getting some of the marketing help I offer, please feel free to reach out to me.
Oh, one more thing. Don’t expect people to work for free. The other annoyance I receive all the time is when I get a message that starts out, “I cannot pay you.”
I have no idea where people think they’re going to get advertising for free. I already charge less than almost everyone I know who does this type of work. I’m not doing it for free. I also do not work on commission.

Overview of Services from Tell-It-To-The-World Marketing (Author, Blogger, Business Assist)
Patty L. Fletcher, Owner
Hello, and thanks for your interest in Tell-It-To-The-World Marketing (Author, Blogger, Business Assist)
Below is an overview of me and the services I provide.
At Tell-It-To-The-World Marketing, we support talented authors and successful business owners, by marrying social media with more traditional approaches.
I opened for business in July of 2017, and I’d like to tell the world about you.
What I can provide:
1. Featured blog posts
It makes no difference whether you have a blog or not. If you do, great. You simply make certain that I have your blog post URL. Once you’ve posted, I will share from your blog to mine, and away you go. Are you interested in being interviewed or guest posting on another person’s blog but don’t have a blog of your own? No problem. Make sure I get notification of when and where you’re appearing, I share to my blog on your behalf, and you’re good. Just send me a URL once the blog post is live.
2. Social media advertising, such as…
Not on all those platforms? No problem. Send me the information for whatever platforms you’re on, and we’ll connect. I’ll share from your timeline, pages, Twitter feeds, etc. to mine, and I’ll take care of putting your work on the platforms you’re not on. Not on any social media? That’s okay. You provide consistent content, and I’ll take care of getting it where it needs to go.
Need press releases or other advertising info sent out but don’t have the time to do it all? You provide the content you want shared and a contact list and let me do all the work.
4. Outreach and networking services
Need help creating a contact list for places to send book information? We can talk about what market you wish to reach, and I can research and create a contact list for you.
5. Facebook page admin assistance
Admin page services range from creating a page on Facebook for you and maintaining it for you to having me listed as an administrator on your current page, so I can help maintain and grow the page. You let me know what you need, and we’ll make it happen.
Please tell me what types of marketing you’re interested in and let me know a bit about what you’re currently doing to promote yourself.
Here are a few questions to help:
1. What social media platforms do you use, if any?
2. Do you participate in regular podcasting, either your own or someone else’s? Which ones have you already been on, and do you have specific podcasts you’re interested in being a guest on?
3. Do you already have a media kit?
4. If not, would you like me to assist you with creating one? If so, does it need updated?
5. How many books do you currently have published?
6. Do you blog? If so, where? Does your blog have sharing options? If so, what are they?
7. Do you work full time as a writer, or are you working another job as well?
Please keep in mind that you can participate in as many or as few of these services as you wish. The idea is to tailor the marketing to your needs.
