As you may know, October is Cyber Security Awareness Month.
In an effort to raise awareness concerning this very important topic Jackie McBride of Brighter Vision Technologies will be speaking on the Tell-It-To-The-World Marketing Phone Chat later this week.
Jackie and I have been working together to make people aware of who she is and what she does so I sat down with her not long ago and asked her to tell me all about herself, her business and why she does it.

For now, here’s Jackie to tell us more.
First, tell us a little about yourself?
I’m a mom, a grandma, and a pastor’s wife. I’m also a singer, songwriter, creative writer, and musician.
What type of business or Nonprofit do you own or work for?
Brighter Vision Technologies is a sole proprietorship that helps businesses utilize technology to help their businesses grow. The motto is, in fact, “tech to help your business soar”. We help with hosting, building, and repairing websites. We also help with email deliverability and business security.
What brought you into this type of work?
I began my computer career as an adaptive technologist. The rewards were huge, but the pay was crappy & the traveling was a pain. In 2010, my sister said she needed to redesign her website. So I began reselling hosting space & assisted her with building her website.
My cybersecurity work actually began in 1995. While working as an adaptive technologist, an agency that offered services to blind children got a virus on their computers. It trashed them. I was consulted, but, because I was very new in the field at the time, I couldn’t really help. I decided I would never be in that position again if I could help it. I’ve since attained computer forensics & antimalware training, and I’ve been passionate about helping folks to not become a cybercrime victim.
What is your favorite part of the work that you do?
Helping my clients.
What is the least favorite part of the work that you do?
What are your personal strengths and how do they assist you in the work you do?
I can learn new things quickly, and I almost always need to, as none of my assignments are ever the same. I tend to be quite detail oriented, and that helps me assemble all the parts, i.e., website design, development, hosting, email, domain registration, email deliverability, and all the various aspects of security. I’m also pretty tenacious, which gets me through the rough spot. & I’m a patient educator, helping my clients to learn what they need to in such a way that they don’t feel threatened, stupid, talked down to, or in other ways demeaned.
What are your personal weaknesses and how do they hinder you in your work? & How are you working to improve them so you can lessen their hindrance to your work?
I hate routine tasks, and a lot of my tasks can become routine. The only thing that helps is having the tenacity of a bulldog. I do a lot of self-improvement reading. I pray for my clients, so I look at them as people, not just at their technical needs.
What is your dream for the future? & how does that relate to your work?
I’d like to expand my business more into the cyber security aspect. I actually have gained clients because I first fixed their compromised website. I also like to educate my clients about how they can prevent their site from being compromised, thereby keeping their site visitors safe.
