Are old ways better than new?

Are new ways better than old?

A question for the ages and continuing.

This has been a conversation since beginning of time.

When I was young, I rolled my eyes, and laughed behind my hands at those older than I when they said olden times were better.

Now I’m a bit older sometimes I shake my head in disbelief at the ways in which young people go about things.

Then I find myself trying something new, different and to some in an unwise fashion and I’m back to rolling my eyes.

But.

Then I take a moment and think.

If nothing new were ever tried we would have nothing we have today, and while I believe some of what is today is not all that great to others it is awesome.

This brings me to this thought.

I see life as one large plate of food.

Taste a bit of this, and a bit of that.

If I do not like it, leave it for someone else.

If I like it, have a bit more and encourage others to try and see if they might like it too.

Would we really wish to eat in an eatery where all the same things were served, and there were no choices?

I would not. To me that would get old.

Would we want all our friends to agree with us all the time?

I would not. If that were the case we’d soon run out of things to chat about.

We might not see pitfalls in our path, without contrast nothing can ever be seen learned or expanded.

Even though there are times when I become annoyed with others for not viewing things as I do when I step back take a breath and see it from another point of view other than my own I’m able to grow.

I’m glad for contrast, without it nothing would ever happen.

We must all play the “Wonder what will happen if?” Game but we must always take it all with a bit of caution tossed in for good measure.

When I went to get Campbell, my Seeing Eye guide dog I was taught, “take a chance. There’s a 50 percent chance you’ll be right.”

But.

I was also taught, if the dog stops you don’t force your way on into the street. Look and see why he stopped.

I’m so glad for all the new things we have.

I’m also glad for those who have seen that some of the new things while great should be experienced with just a bit of mindfulness.

I love that life is experienced differently for all of us.

It is like one huge patchwork quilt. Different colors, textures, and as with the large plate of food tastes.

I say have all the experiences you want, and I say do what makes you happy.

But.

Be willing to hear the voices of those who have gone before you as well.

So, here I am back at the question.

Are old ways better?

Are new ways better?

I say it’s all a matter of opinions.

I also ask.

What would the world be if there were not opinions?

I think it would be a very yucky place to be.

For now, I must go.

Where? Well, I do not know.

But.

When I have gotten a bit further I’ll come back and let you know.

Until next time this is Patty who likes to try new things but keep a bit of the old, and Campbell who will go right beside her to keep her out of the street saying…

Live Learn Grow.

May harmony find you.

Blessid be.
